Content Drives the Net

In the world of SEO, SEM, and SERP Content is KING.  I think I have mentioned that before.  But how the content is presented is also important.  The SE’s have become more and more intelligent over the years when they used to just catalog the content of your site.  Now they have become almost intelligent and can find many things that they used to pass by before.

It used to be a common tactic to stuff in words that are the same color as the page at the bottom of the page.  These were words the user couldn’t see cause they were the same color as the background, but the search engines could, and the more times your search words showed up the better your results.  The SE’s became wise to this and now will ban sites that use the techinique.

What is the best thing to do now is to make sure your pages make sense to the average reader. If they make sense to them the will make sense to the SE’s and if you write your information about your product (hard or soft) with the SE in mind you can work in your keywords into the content and get the results your looking for.

Let me give you an example of what I mean from my coffee site. You look at each of the various coffee pages you find information about the flavor of the coffee and the like.  In the body of the content I use the key words Gourmet and Coffee and Flavor or Flavored as much as I can while at the same time keeping the content readable and understandable to the reader.  This has a dual effect of making the content unique with my key words in it and also perfectly fine for the average reader.

Unique content is also extremely important, copying and pasting from another site or source on the net will be discovered.  The SE’s are able to compare your content to the content of other sites.  If the other site used the content first your copying them, if you used it first they are copying you.  In either case the SE will read it and according to its archive determine who to punish.  So make your content unique.

The other thing is that you want to try to use as much text as you can.  Many SEO, SERP, SEM experts believe that you need at least 250 words per page.  This makes sense as it gives enough information for the SE’s to understand your page and also deem it important to the net because it contains a lot of content.  If you have more content than a competitor your more likely to rank above them.
